The Cookie Diet

The Cookie Diet

The Cookie Diet is based on a very low calorie intake of about 800 per day. This diet was the brainchild of Dr. Siegal and dates back to 1975 when he was researching natural foods and dieting and he claims that amino acids baked into the cookie can control hunger. This diet doesnt try to brainwash you with statements such as Lose X amount of pounds of fat in X amount of days, but due to the low calorific and carbohydrate intake, aswell as not providing nearly enough vitamins, minerals and fibre, I give this one a big thumbs down!

The Cookie Diet see’s you eating 6 of Dr. Siegals expensive cookies for breakfast and lunch followed by a normal dinner. The dinner meal will consist of 6 ounces of lean protein meat which is only chicken, turkey, fish or seafood with a small serving of vegetables and 8 glasses of water per day also accompanies this diet. The cookies are available in chocolate, raisin and coconut flavour, which actually sounds pretty nice, however even Dr. Siegal himself admits that they arent really very tasty!

By now I hope to have given you mixed feelings about the Cookie Diet so heres a few more reasons which I hope will sway your decision away from this one! Something that is not often mentioned about this diet is that as many as 60 percent of Dr. Siegels patients that are on the cookie diet are also prescribed with appetite suppressant drugs while 25% are prescribed with thyroid hormones. This diet may be alright for those prescribed patients, but do you fit into that category? The Cookies are very expensive, at $59 for 1 weeks supply. Another downside worth mentioning is that this diet is reported to make you have a very low sex drive. Guy Ritchie had tried this diet in the past as a little jest with his friends, and Madonna stated publicly that “The Cookie Diet killed Guy’s sex drive”!

My final verdict then, is that this diet is seriously lacking in calories, carbohydrates (only around 70g per day), protein, vitamins, minerals, fruit, fibre and vegetables. This is not a sustainable healthy diet and will leave you feeling tired and weak. When you have finished the diet you will regain the weight you lost. The diet is very expensive at $59 per week and allthough it sounds nice to have a cookie diet, you will soon ge bored of these nasty cookies!
