The food that arrives on any American’s table is food grown with the help of pesticides, chemical fertilizers, or sewage sludge, and there is always some residue left, howsoever you may wash it. As with any idea, you will find advocates for and against it, but here it is the matter of your family’s well being. Do you wish to improve yourself with a healthy lifestyle? The choice is yours!
Going green has health as well as environmental benefits. Putting food on your table that has not been exposed to fertilizers and chemicals decreases the health risk for your kids.
Foods To Eat
Going green does not mean you have to turn into a vegetarian. You can consume meat of livestock raised organically, livestock that has not been exposed to antibiotics and growth hormones. Certain agricultural produce, the dirty dozen, have more residual pesticides on them, according to the nonprofit Environmental Working Group (EWG). • Cherries: Prevent heart diseases through consumption of cherries, but go organic. This is one of the great going green ideas as cherries contain abundance of Vitamins C and B complex, antioxidants, and potassium.
• Nectarines: Those who prefer this fruit along with its skin can switch over to organic nectarines to avoid pesticide residue.
• Strawberries: A lot of pesticides go into producing conventional strawberries. Go for organic strawberries as they provide protection against heart problems and have anti-inflammatory properties.
• Raspberries: These contain 50% more antioxidant properties than strawberries and so going organic is a perfect going green idea to avoid residual pesticides.
• Bell Peppers: All the three varieties of bell peppers have high nutrition values. Improve your eyesight, reduce heart risks, and promote general health by opting for organic bell peppers.
• Celery: Just go for the organic kind as it does not have any protective skin.
• Spinach: Being a leafy vegetable, it is advisable for spinach lovers to go for organic spinach.
• Potatoes: The most popular vegetable on your table and also has the highest pesticide residue. Opting for organic potatoes wins hands down!
