Buy Organic Food in Bulk
Organic food is expensive, but you can put it on your table if you know how to shop cheap. That is putting it succinctly.
Now, answer this question. When you go on those fancy diets to lose weight and spend more on the diets than on your normal food do you think of the extra expenses? Most of the times, you don’t. But why when it is a question of a healthy lifestyle for your family? Anyway, you and your family can eat green on a budget!
How To Do It
Food is something you will take for the rest of your life three times a day, just like you would medicines. And what happens when you take the wrong medicine? You land up with more health problems and added expenses. So going for green food is a great saving advice! Here are some going green ideas on your fixed budget.
Start buying in bulk. Buy your organic food by the case or larger sacks. Don’t walk into a grocery store and pick up a ½ kg (I lb) package of your favorite food. Why not pick up a 5 kg (10 lbs) package wholesale? Grains, beans, seasonings and other food items which you put on your table regularly can be purchased in bulk, and it may save you quite a chunk.
With organic foods becoming increasingly popular, you can probably join with like minded neighbors and shop cheap by buying bulk at wholesale prices. It may cost you only 50% of what you will pay retail!
You, of course, cannot totally eliminate visits to the local store. But plan out your visits. Instead of making two visits a week plan to go once every two weeks. Go with a list, and you will be able to avoid buying items on the spur of the moment. If you are more of a fresh fruits and vegetable person you may require more frequent visits, but you can make these ‘pop in and pop out’ visits as you may have made your other purchases in bulk.
When buying bulk you can look for deals. Stock up with rice, beans, nuts and grains among other items when they go on sale. Use coupons if you have them. This is a great way to shop cheap. You and your family may not be able to eliminate meat from your table and organic meat is expensive. Go for those meat substitutes and buy them also in bulk. This will cost you less than even the meat of the non-organic variety!
Another shop cheap advice is to reduce eating out. Eating out is expensive and you may not find green food everywhere. You can probably cook up a tasty fare at home at a fraction of what it will cost you eating out. Make your own salad dressing and whip up a bowl of your favorite salad.
It is easy eating green on a budget. Just shop cheap by planning and buying in bulk.
